THE PREROGATIVE OF TRAINING AND EQUIPPING THE CHURCH TO EVANGELISE - Evangel Pentecostal Church

Isaiah 28:9; Luke 6:12-13; 2 Timothy 2:1,2 Mathew 26:19,20; Acts 2:42; 16:4,5; 1 Timothy 4:13Training is the means through which every member of the church is raised to become a disciple so that he can be involved in the ministry of reconcilation in fulfilment of the Great Commission (Mark 16:15). Jesu Christ appointed His twelve disciple and having given them the basic training and equipping them, He sent them out to preach the Kingdom and to heal all manner of sicknesses and diseases (Mathew 10:1). The whole body of Christ (the Church) must be involved. Consequently, their training and equipping is of paramount importance.

PURPOSE AND PRIORITY OF TRAINING

There are many reasons we must embark on training programme in the church. Failure to train our members will result in unfruitfulness in service, unseriousness in Christian Life, negative attitude to God's work and lack of zeal for the Great Commission. Training will therefore help the Church to understand how he should live for God, do God's work and live holy lives ( Luke 6: 12,13; Ephesians 4:11,15).
Besides, training ebsures pursuit of vision, goals sound doctrines, growth and strategy for Evangelism (2 Timothy 2:2). As members are trained, they become more responsive, stable in their Christian convictions and able to take greater challenges. Training is the panacea to ignorance. Mark 3:13-15; Matthew 4:19,36-38; 2 Timothy 2:1-7; Timothy 6:13-21

PEOPLE FOR, AND PROGRAMME FOR TRAINING

Scripturally, those who are qualified for training in the church are those who are genuinely converted from don and have become children of God. The tremble at God's work; they are faithful in all things and obedient to church leadership. When Moses was to select and train those to assist him in ministry matter, his father-in-law counselled him to choose from the people "able men such as fear God,men of truth, hating covetousness ( Exodus 18:21). Before our Lord Jesus Christ chose the twelve disciple, He took to pray (Luke 6:12,13). He went further to train and equip them for the task of evangelising their community. In fact, it was this training that helped the twelve apostles to overcome the temptation to desert Jesus unlike the untrained multitudes. After His teaching on the "Bread of life", the Bible says, "From that time, many of His disciplesbl went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, will ye also go away?...." ( John 6:66-68). The chose to stay.
Paul the apostle also instructed Timothy to commit the work to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also ( Timothy 2:2). In summary, we are to train to profit the church. We are to train the born-again men and women in the church so that they can be involved in the work of the Lord. Isaiah 28:9; Luke 6:12-13; 2 Timothy 2:1,2 Mathew 26:19,20; Acts 2:42; 16:4,5; 1 Timothy 4:13

PROCESS AND PROFIT OF TRAINING

The Lord was very systematic in training His disciples.
(1) He was sure they had forsaken all to follow Him.
(2) He taught them the mystery of the kingdom;
(3) He taught them doctrine;
(4) He revealed the end of sinners; and
(5) He showed them the necessity of preaching God's kingdom.
Though training is for lifetime, goals must be set at every stage. We should endeavor to cover the following:-
(1) salvation;
(2) water baptism;
(3) Sanctification;
(4) Holy Ghost Baptism;
(5) Restitution;
(6) Intercessory Prayers;
(7) Purity and Power;
(8) Quiet Time;
(9) Personal study and devotional life;
(10) Vision and goals;
(11) Commitment and Consecration;
(12) Method of presenting the gospel;
(13) leading HCF; (14) visitation and follow-up
Having trained them, they should not remain idle or inactive but should be occupied with evangelistic work with necessary materials like tracts, cassettes, magazines etc., Made available for distribution and outreaches. Also, they should be engaged in other church work.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the resultant effect of training and equipping the church for evangelism is that souls in their multitudes will be coming to Jesus from every parts of our community. "Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God" (Psalm 68:31). And a little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nations: I the LORD will hasten it in his time" (Isaiah 60:20)
